Bad to turn off computer by pressing button down?

I just got my new laptop a couple days ago and it froze in the middle of shutting down. I hate doing that, but I had no other choice. I think it might've been because I also unplugged the battery charger in the middle of shutdown? It's fine, because I turned it back on and that black screen popped up so I just continued to the login page and turned it back off and it did it itself. But, does doing it just once start to cause problems?
