Question to those who say God won't force any one to go to Heaven ?

Why do these same people claim that eternal torment is the only alternative? They say God is "giving them what they want" by sending them to Hell. Why wouldn't God annihilate them if they don't want Heaven? Why eternal torment in fire? What kind of "gift" is that?
