Is there a software that automatically and safely shuts down your laptop PC after the wall Power supply is cut?

I want to watch online TV when I go to bed, but when i decide to turn uit off, i dont want to go over to the other side of the room to turn it off, so I rigged an extension cord with a power cut switch to cut power when I get tired. I want my laptop to safely shut down, so i am not considering taking out the battery. Is there a software that for example, once your power supply is cut, it says "press here to terminate shutdown process, otherwise it will occur in 30 seconds" or something like that? If you do not understand, please ask me to elaborate.
