Screen resolution keeps being messed up randomly?

I play video games on my computer and to play them, I have to set the game systems to their smallest resolution, which is 600x800 or something. Sometimes when I shutdown my computer and turn it back on it will go form its native screen size down to the smallest for no reason I can understand- other than maybe my games are causing it. How do I stop this?
