During a lecture at the University of Toronto, Marshall McLuhan stated his four laws of media: enhance, retrieve, reverse and obsolesce. By laws, I am apt to assume that he meant the four elements at which every technological advancement triggers. For example, if we were to take the cell phone as a technological advancement, we could say that it enhances and extends our ears, it obsolesces the need for humans to be social animals, it retrieves the idea of a global village and it reverses the effects of the cell phone by pushing us into physical social isolation. From my own experiences as a citizen of an urban era, I find myself to be in full agreement with McLuhan’s four laws of media. I believe that although technology has brought us many scientific discoveries, we still have to be cautious about using technology as a means of annihilating face to face communication with our fellow human beings. It is unfortunate that many people (including myself) see technological devices as animate objects when in truth they are inanimate and can only satisfy limited social and recreational desires. It is true that cell phones retrieve our human tribal needs, however, we see seem to have somehow tricked ourselves in regards to what communication is- that is the combination of shared promises and experiences between two interacting humans. For this reason and from personal experiences, I believe that McLuhan’s laws of media are extremely relevant to our modern world.

By annihilation from its current state, I take it to mean changed to a different state. And human nature is not one mass whole that everyone has. The definition of human nature is the differing aspects of daily life that influence the change of society. There is no way that human life could continue if it were completely annihilated. If it were, nobody would move forward, because we would not have dreams or goals that push civilization towards the brinks of development. But, if it were changed from its current state, and made into a more reasonable, stable variable, then human development may even progress faster. So, if you look at my interpretation of the answer, yes, it should.

Integra engine shuts off when hot?

My 95 Integra GSR has an occasional shut-off problem. When the car warms up there is a buzzing sound coming from somewhere. If you touch the fuel filter it feels like its vibrating. If its hot out the car will sometimes shutdown when running and will eventually restart in 10-30 minutes. It shuts right off-no sputtering. I've changed the pump relay and ignitor previously . Basically, I was talking to this person over facebook (let's call him Jim) and we played truth or dare, He asked me to send naked pictures to him, but I refused because I hardly knew him and wouldn't do it anyway. His brother Michael was had better succes as a pro as he was an undisputed light - heavyweight world cahmpion and then moved up to heavyweight and handed Larry Holmes his first loss as a professional albeit a 35 year old Holmes but Larry was still a pretty good fighter at that time as he beat Bonecrusher Smith, Tim Witherspoon and then went on to beat Ray Mercer a few years later. And Michael also has a good victory over the dangerous Gerry Cooney as he knocked out Gerry in 5 rounds in 1988. So it is a littlebit surprising that Leon never accomplished more as a pro as fighter with amazing amateur careers normally make great pros ie Muhammad Ali/Cassius Clay, Ray Leonard, Pernell Whitaker, Amir Khan, Roy Jones (should have won Olympic gold), George Foreman, Joe Frazier, Mike Tyson (Tyson surprisingly had a great amateur career), Michael Dokes, Lennox Lewis, Ray Robinson (never lost a fight as an amateur and was too young to enter the 1936 Olympics in Berlin), Riddick Bowe etc. Although it is hard to critcise Leon as he was a World Amateur Champion and an Olympic Champion and then battled and beat Ali after 6 or ten fights or something lol. Seven fights I think it was before he fought Ali. In my opinion Leon would have made a better cruiserweight as he would have been too light to fight the best heavyweights during his era as he got demolished by Homes and Coetzee after he beat Ali. And Ali's power would have not been the same as it was in the 1960s and early 1970s when he fought Leon whichwould have allowed Leon to go the distance twice with Ali. If a younger Ali had fought Leon then he ould have beaten Leon inside the distance a did Holmes and Coetzee. But ifthe cruiserweight division would have existed when Leon turnd pro then he would have probably been unbeatable in that weight class. Instead Leon had to move up from ight - heavyweight and foughtat heavyweight weighing about 203 lbs against men who weigt 220 lbs or more ie Holmes and Coetzee. I just got my new laptop a couple days ago and it froze in the middle of shutting down. I hate doing that, but I had no other choice. Computer doesn't shut off?

When I shut my computer off, it doesn't actually shut off. It tends to go through the 'Updates', but recently it pauses during the shutdown, or during the updates. For example, two days ago I left when it said 'installing updates 2 of 2'. I returned 7 hours later to see that it didn't shut off. In fact, it still said 'installing updates 2 of 2'. It wasn't frozen though, the loading circle was still spinning. It's done this a couple of times now. I'm running windows 7, and am unsure how to fix this. Any suggestions? Please and thank you.

Council House Tenancy?

Me and my partner have been in a joint tenancy with the Council for 15 months now. We have 2 children together aged 2 years and 11 months. What are the odds 3 of 4 RAM cards go bad around the same time?

For a while, I was having lots of problems with my computer that seemed to come out of nowhere. Lots of BSODs, occasional freezing (not during any intensive mind you), occasional crashes, and some weird issues with AVG not updating (general error). My computer came with 3 GB of RAM: 1 GB x 2 and 512 MB x 2. I tried taking all but one 1 GB card out and ALL the issues went away. I only noticed that it was slower during startups and shutdowns but otherwise about the same as before these issues arose. I let it run on this one card for a day (PLENTY of time for my issues to come up) and it was fine. I tried adding the other 1 GB the next day and instant BSOD so I took it out. I tried one 512 MB and my machine wouldn't turn on, I just got a black screen. I checked to make sure it was in properly, black screen is all I would get. I'm now running with the one 1 GB on the other 512 MB and it seemed fine until I had a random crash and now AVG is giving me that error again. It seems like all but the first 1 GB card went bad all at once. How likely is this and what could have caused it? Could it be an issue with the slots rather than the actual cards?

Major FML situation: what should I do?

My computer runs fine but freezes often?

So I've had this problem starting a few days ago. My computer will start up fine and will run normally for maybe 5-10 minutes but then it decides to randomly just freeze up. I can still move the mouse cursor around on the screen but no programs respond, not even when I hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete. The only way to get out of this is to force my computer into shutdown. I was able to run safe mode for a while but that eventually froze up too. I have tried multiple solutions in the "Event Viewer" and I was defraging the hard drive but it crashed. Nothing I have done so far has seemed to help, currently I am about to take the computer and clean off the heat sink and fan and apply some new Articsilver. If anyone knows a solution to this problem your help would be greatly appreciated, or if you can redirect me to another site with the solution. Please do not give me a link to one of those free registry cleaners or other programs, I know not to use those already and I will not even touch them.

Try to defrag your hard drive see if that speeds things up a bit; also run Advanced System Care and CCleaner google them. If you are dead set on upgrading get a SSD hard drive and install windows there and use the 7200 rpm drive for storage it will speed things up dramatically.

First of all Goku in ssj4 has incredible speed and unbelievable strength and don't say Rikudou's teleportation jutsu is way faster than anything Goku can do because its not. Rikudou is strong i admit it, he does have amazing amounts of chakra being able to control the 10 tailed beast but seriously comparing him to a guy who with a fully powered kamehameha could most likely rip through time and destroy galaxy's. I've read a lot of debates about these two and most people think Rikudou would win because of the fact that goku would need to seal the 10 tailed beast to actually win which is really not true mainly because of the power goku has. For those people who have seen the episode of dragonball z where Vegeta blows up a planet with 1 finger without even trying would know that when Vegeta did that he didn't have nearly the amount of power a ssj1 has but yet he was still able to destroy a planet with ease proving that Goku in ssj4 could absolutely annihilate the ten tailed beast with a full powered kamehameha. A kamehameha has never been shown to be 100% so no one knows what would happen if it was used while Goku was in ssj4.

Could my PC be damaged?

Last night I was using a program called realtemp to measure the temperature of my CPU (i7 950) and it was at 50C. I click the test sensors button just for the heck of it and it said I needed prime95 and so I downloaded that. I used prime95 to run tests (I don't know what test) and decided to go on facebook for a little while.. When I went to look at realtemp it said my CPU was at 89C!! I immediately shutdown my computer and turned it back on, now it is normal. What do you think happened? And do you think my CPU or Motherboard is damaged? Thanks

Sims 3 Custom content causes game crash. Help!?!?

So I've installed a bunch of player created custom content (not from EA) and everything seemed to work fine. I placed these windows on my house and everything kept going fine. The game had no problems with the windows when I first used them. So I saved and shutdown my computer and came back a few hours later. I continued work on my house, but when I got the camera in view of the windows, the game crashed. I know its the windows because when I saw them they looked very messed up. I was able to get back on and work on other areas of the house, but whenever I get in view of the windows the game crashes. I don't have time to delete them or anything, and I really can't just delete the lot or anything because I've already put so much time into this. If I delete the content out of the downloads folder will this get rid of the windows? Or will it mess up the game even more? What can I do to fix this?

Does my computer have a virus?

I downloaded the SNES emulator SNES9x from CoolROMs.com for about a week and then deleted it. I also downloaded a few ROMS for it an deleted those as well. However, I've noticed that in my program files there are files with the SNES9x icon that pertain to different programs. Ex: In my itunes folder there are 3 files that have the SNES9x icon but are labeled the actual program name (IpodUpadaterExt, ItunesMiniplayer, ItunesOutlookAddin). I haven't noticed any serious slowing down of my computer, popups, or errors...however, just the fact that these icons are all over my computers ProgramFiles, ProgramFile(x86), and Windows folders makes me uncomfortable. Again, no serious slowing down, errors, or random shutdowns, but is it worth spending some money to have it looked at. Also, i have Avast Free Antivirus and it hasn't picked up any virus. However, I understand it's only a free version and not as effective as the pro versions.

I need some help with Windows 7 disk read error!?

So I was on my Acer Aspire 5532 laptop (terrible I know) and then all of my apps froze out of nowhere. So I forced shutdown. I turn my laptop back on to discover that I have the "A Disk Read Error Occured. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart" error, I inserted my Acer CD and it started up with "Windows files are loading" (or something like that). It then loaded and I saw my cursor and a Acer screen that told me to wait a few "moments." So I waited about half and hour and nothing happened so I forced shut down. I turned it back on and loaded the cd. But now instead of the Acer screen all I get is a black screen with a moveable cursor. I then placed my Windows 7 Home CD into my laptop and tried with that. I got the same message with the loading bar about Windows loading files, then I get the cool boot image with windows 7, and once again I was taken to a black screen with a moveable cursor. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET THE CD TO AT LEAST WORK! PLZ HELP!

Im assuming your a teenager in middle school or high school or something along those lines. Im in my twenties now and I did stupid things like that when i was a teenager too ans so have many others. Obviously its not a joke and it sounds like you have learned your lessen so i wouldn't beat yourself up over it and as goes for that girls cousin, they probably feel taken advantage of and don't trust you right now so that is why they blocked you. They will eventually forgive you, just leave them alone and do your own thing, the more you bother them the more they will get mad.

Dell Laptop; reinstalling windows 7?

I have a Dell laptop and have been trying to restore it. When I used the disk that came with my laptop, the stage 2 of installation froze up and wouldn't proceed further leaving me with no choice but to turn off my system. Since having done that, every time I turn my system on it says that I have to restart because of shutdown error or unsuccessful installation, and start from scratch. I have restarted my computer many times and I keep getting the same window. I have even tried safe mode and it just says that I can't install an os through safe mode. I am out of ideas and really don't want to have to take my machine to a shop.

Dell Inspiron 1545 Notebook- Stuck at update installation?

I had just reformatted this laptop a few days before this problem occurred. The Inspiron was reformatted with Windows Vista, and originally came with Vista. A few days after being reformatted, Windows had to do its usual installation of updates before shutdown, we left during that process. We came back a few minutes later and we found that the laptop is restarting, coming back to a screen which says, "Installing update 3 of 3....100%" and then it will restart it's self again. It does this again and again, a never ending cycle. Is there a way to by pass this and cancel it out or a way or anything? Thanks for your time and help.

Ok, here’s how this works. Hijab is not meant to be to annihilate any woman’s personality. I agree with you on the fact that some social factors are aimed at that (even in our cultures as I don’t find those magazines that teach women that they are only worth something if they can be as thin as a stick to please men empowering to women). From my study, the main purpose of the Hijab from approximately 1500 years ago, when Islam first immerged, is to protect women in the desert. First of all, even men covered their face from the windy, dusty burning hot weather and second, at the time, there was no such thing as law (that’s what Islam proposed). Any man can just basically kidnap any woman and do whatever he pleases with her. Therefore, it was just the natural thing for society to develop a way to protect the women from such fate. In the modern day however, there are many who argue with or against Hijab proposing that it is tradition and exploring its reasons religiously. Some Muslim women chose to wear it and are proud that their religious belief is one that is aimed to protect women to the greatest extent. Other Muslim women, however choose not to wear it and from my information both groups of women are respected and supported by their religion. Regardless of weather Hijab is required or it is a traditional form of clothing it is worn by personal consent as in Islam anything one is forced to do is not accountable for. Thus, those women who chose to wear the Hijab have the choice to add any accessories they please to it. Basically everyone is entitled to their opinion about what they feel is right and what they find comfort in. Just think of it this way, if Islam was meant to annihilate a woman’s personality then it would keep the old custom of buying and selling women without the attempt to protect them…and you are right, then women wouldn’t have a choice on what to add to their Hijab.
